Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

The CSU Health Network at Colorado State University provides a full range of cost-effective mental health and primary care medical services on campus, referral for community specialty care, and comprehensive health education and prevention services programming. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant provides outpatient adult and occasionally adolescent psychiatric evaluations, medication management and brief psychotherapy. This position is responsible for psychiatric assessments and management, ordering and interpreting tests and documenting in the electronic health record; assesses patient progress and modifies treatment plans accordingly; institutes emergency hospitalizations for patients in crisis for their safety and stabilization when needed; refers patients to community providers when needed; and provides tele psychiatry services through video/phone conferencing.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant reports directly to the Director of General Counseling Services.

The full-time (40 hours per week), 12-month (52-week) salary range for this position is $115,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is scheduled to work 24–40 hours per week during the academic year, approximately 39 weeks. This position is not scheduled to work 13 weeks during the summer break. The number of hours per week will be identified and a regular schedule established. The full-time annualized salary will be adjusted based upon working 24-40 hours per week and the approximately 39-week academic-year work schedule. This position is benefits eligible.

Essential Job Duties

• Provides outpatient adult psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
• Responsible for ordering and interpreting tests and documenting in the electronic health record.
• Institutes emergency hospitalization for patients in crisis for their safety and stabilization when needed.
• Follows guidance for standard of care and documentation of provided care.
• Demonstrated understanding of social determinants of health (SDOH) frameworks and their direct impact on clinical outcomes and population health management.
• Consults with psychiatrists, medical providers and counselors at the CSU Health Network, CSU campus and community entities as needed. May consult and coordinate with student's family as appropriate.
• Participates in required meetings, educational activities, University committees, and continuing education to maintain license and certification.
• Other job duties as assigned.

• Special Requirements/Other - For the protection of patients and staff, the CSU Health Network follows CDC guidelines for employee health. Vaccinations must be up-to-date according to CSU Health Network Employee Health policy, or you must be willing to become current with requirements.

Required Job Qualifications

• Possession of a Master's degree or higher as an advanced practice nurse or physician assistant.
• Possession of a current DEA number for authorization of prescriptive privileges, or the ability to obtain by the start date.
• Possession of Colorado Prescriptive Authority.
• Possession of a current Colorado Medical License, or the ability to obtain by the start date.
• Two years of experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with psychiatric certification in a family, child/adolescent, adult or college setting, with a broad range of clinical experience in mental health care.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Certification:

• Certified by the ANCC as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner; or NCCPA as a Psychiatric Physician Assistant by having completed the certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in Psychiatry.

Experience:

• Three years of experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with psychiatric certification in a family, child/adolescent, adult or college setting with a broad range of clinical experience in mental health care.
• Experience working in an integrated health care setting.
• Experience working with an electronic health record system.
• Experience working with a young adult/college age population.
• Experience working with ADHD, depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, neurodevelopmental disorders, psychosis and trauma-informed care.
• Experience or interest working with patients suffering from Eating Disorders.
• Experience or interest in treating substance use disorder.
• Comfort working with patients with moderately complex mental health needs.

Knowledge, Skill, Ability, Other Characteristics:

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary health care team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with policies of the CSU Health Network, Colorado State University, state, federal and HIPAA requirements.
• Interest in the wellness of students and their family members and respect for the role of patients in the decision-making process.
